Bonney Lake High School senior, Joshua Chapman was honored at the Sumner Rotary’s Scholarship Award Banquet on May 16th, 2017. Joshua is recipient of a two year, renewable scholarship up to $15,000 to cover tuition at Bates Community College where he plans to attend the Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology program in the fall of 2017.
During the application process, Joshua, along with the other candidates, visited GTC’s Freightliner Northwest location in Pacific, WA to tour the Service Department and meet with the Service Manager. Students also participated in two rounds of interviews before the final selection was made.
“Joshua has true passion for diesel technology, demonstrated a work ethic and level of professionalism that were beyond our expectations for a high school student,” says Kim Betts, HR Generalist at GTC. “Additionally, he has a financial need that would delay attending school if it weren’t for this scholarship. We were very fortunate in finding such a great candidate for our first recipient and Joshua is someone that has the ability to go far in this industry.”
“Supporting our local students in their pursuit of a career in diesel technology makes sense for our family and our industry,” said Scott Gordon, GTC President. “We are very proud of Joshua and eager to see where his career takes him in the future.”
GTC announced the first ever two-year renewable diesel technology scholarship of up to $15,000 for graduating high school seniors in the Sumner, WA school district earlier this year. GTC says this scholarship is intended to support the next generation of students choosing a career in diesel technology.
Congratulations Josh! I know you will honor the receipt of this scholarship and put your all into the education opportunity you’ve been given. You’ve earned it, berry porous of you 😊❤
